Revitalizing Heritage: The Transformation of The Creamery
The Creamery is conceived as a mixed-use development that reinterprets an important piece of San Antonio’s industrial heritage. Located at the northern end of the River Walk, the project transforms a 1930s Art Deco milk factory into a contemporary destination where work, retail, hospitality, and public life converge. Rather than preserving the historic structure as an isolated landmark, the design integrates it into a broader urban composition that connects the city’s past with its evolving cultural and social landscape.
The master plan combines the adaptive reuse of the existing building with the addition of new retail and restaurant spaces, creating a diverse environment that encourages activity throughout the day. Public plazas, landscaped pedestrian trails, covered terraces, and riverfront amenities establish a network of open spaces that seamlessly connect the different programmatic elements. The development prioritizes walkability and flexibility, allowing the site to accommodate both everyday use and community-oriented events while strengthening its relationship with the San Antonio River.
